Guided Transformative Journey
How does our developmental journey interpenetrate with our spiritual journey throughout our lives?
In this course we will investigate our unique developmental journey in community and how, regardless of our understanding of spirituality, states are a required part of our development, and development is a required part of states. This will require us to examine other sub-questions, like:
Can we access the full maturity of our spiritual journey at earlier developmental levels? If so, could this stop our developmental growth?
Can we pass through our full developmental journey without full state maturity? If so, what does this do to our spiritual journey?
Is balance between relative stage development and absolute state development relevant or desirable?

This Transformation Journey Will Provide ...
In this course we will investigate our unique developmental journey in community and through the process you may unearth gaps in your growing up that you can fill in— with some offering of exercises to do so.
Regardless of our understanding of spirituality, states are a required part of our development, and development is a required part of states. Each month a library of material in the online space will be available for you to investigate and deepen your understanding of states and stages.
Guest speakers may be invited and instructor lead exercises will provided that will serve any healing that you may find helpful in the process increasing health any areas you encounter along the way, both developmentally and in state development.
Over the course of 12 months, each month will be dedicated to a developmental level, exploring stages 1.0 through 6.5.
Monthly Course Structure
Course structure will allow for individual reflections and research on your life and collective reflections and research on your lives. You will keep a journal of what you have learned the first three weeks and draw on that for week four. We will have an online space to reflect together, to ask questions if we find ourselves engulfed in the “bushes” and are unable to see a larger view, as well as the opposite.
We will gather online for a 2 hour session together to prepare for the month's investigation. There will be time for a presentation for the months investigation, for collective discussion and interactions, and for questions of me and each other. The rest of first week will be used for individual reflections and research on the developmental and state investigation for the month.
You will convene with your partner and share with each other your investigation and reflections for that stage, take notes and see what you may have left out in your investigation by responding to the questions of your partner and take the time to make any changes or do more research due to the interaction with your partner
You will convene with a group of three other people and share your summary and share and reflect as a group what you may find in common about that stage and what seems to be unique to your own journey. You will look for overall principles that seem to be in common collectively and individually.
You will write a chapter of your autobiography for that month's stage based on what you have learned with your partner, your foursome and your own individual reflections. This will include both developmental and state understandings that you have arrived from the month’s work including any understandings of how you were socially constructed within that stage to arrive at your sense of self/ego and how you individually contributed to that understanding.
Questions we will investigate ...
What has our own personal experience been with these questions? How do they contribute to our own unique state and developmental experiences at each stage?
Developmental questions we will investigate for each stage:
How has our sense of self (ego) been socially constructed by our particular contexts to construct the person we are today, foregrounding the collective influences on us at each stage.
How have we individually constructed our sense of self at each stage, foregrounding our unique individual interpretations we have made at each stage.
What stages in our lives have more socially constructed influences and what stages have had more individual influences in our lives.
What stages must be present to develop to the next state?
State developmental questions we will investigate for each stage:
What developmental states seem to be critical for our spiritual journeys and what developmental states do we develop to support that journey?
What states must be present to develop to the next stage?
This transformative journey includes ...

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Terri is an Integral scholar whose research spans 40 years, including eleven research studies conducted in various colleges, public schools, and private research venues. Her most recent theory, and the culmination of a lifetime of work, is the STAGES model of human development. STAGES integrates several developmental models and is informed by Ken Wilber’s Integral Theory and Terri’s own research, to form a robust and predictive map that is being used by numerous scholars, practitioners, and leaders throughout the world.
Terri’s theory and research interests are founded in a passionate practice of auspicious curiosity, learning, and marinating in life. Teaching has been a theme throughout Terri’s life. Beginning as a preschool and first-grade teacher, she has taught every grade, including special education and the gifted. She has held the role of elementary school principal and public school-district superintendent and taught in seven colleges and universities, with over fifty years experience in teaching from pre-kindergarten through post-doctorate studies.
Her interest in life span development naturally arose from her experience in the field of education. She has a Ph.D. in Integral Studies with a concentration in Learning and Change in Human Systems, and masters degrees in Spiritual Direction and Special Education. These embodied experiences inform her primary theory, research, and teaching theme: growing up is waking up throughout the lifespan.
Ordinariness has been the trajectory of Terri’s life. She is the eldest of seven siblings, parent of two adult children, and grandparent of two granddaughters. Steeped in philosophy, research, teaching, and a myriad of spiritual practices, her path continues to bring her solidly home to the practical living, breathing appreciation of the simple things in life.
We wake up every morning. We grow up, quite naturally. We live through joys and sorrows, and face our family, friends, and neighbors every day. We grow old and watch our life approach its end as we apprehend the birth of our grandchildren. With the gifts of so many experiences, the highs and lows of being, what seems to always remain, is what we were advised to value from birth: listening, gratitude, compassion, love, forgiveness, generosity, light-heartedness—lifelong lessons that never seem to end.
